It's not about the reply but more about the quality of the commenters. I mean a lot of people simply posting words one or two words like "Very nice" or "Cool!" and that's all. Sit down, think about something to comment about. If you got nothing then just skip it. 

If comments are better in quality the artists will actually give good replies as well.
